

Photoshop Painting: Christmas Card 2013: Phase 1

Here we see the underlying value study (phase 1), and I’ll post the color version tomorrow. I grew tired of being held back by the medium…what I can do with traditional drawing materials would take me 10 times as long in Photoshop. Enough was enough! I ran down a 2 hour rabbit trail of testing a series of brushes and settings until I found something close to what I wanted. I painted spheres, a lot of them. I figured that if I could get the values right on simple value scales, it would work out for my paintings. Below is an image of my rabbit trail, which I’m saving as a Photoshop paint brush reference:
